Istanbul embraces this enviable position with both a certain chaos and inventiveness, ever evolving as one of the world’s most cosmopolitan crossroads. It’s often said that Istanbul is the meeting point of East and West, but visitors to this city built over the former capital of two great empires are likely to be just as impressed by the juxtaposition of old and new. Office towers creep up behind historic palaces, women in chic designer outfits pass others wearing long skirts and head coverings, peddlers’ pushcarts vie with battered old Fiats and shiny BMWs for dominance of the noisy, narrow streets, and the Grand Bazaar competes with modern shopping malls. At dawn, when the muezzin’s call to prayer resounds from ancient minarets, there are inevitably a few hearty revelers still making their way home from nightclubs and bars. Most visitors to this sprawling city of more than 14 million will first set foot in the relatively compact Old City, where the legacy of the Byzantine and Ottoman empires can be seen in monumental works of architecture like the brilliant Aya Sofya and the beautifully proportioned mosques built by the great architect Sinan. Though it would be easy to spend days, if not weeks, exploring the wealth of attractions in the historical peninsula, visitors should make sure also to venture elsewhere in order to experience the vibrancy of contemporary Istanbul. With a lively nightlife propelled by its young population and an exciting arts scene that’s increasingly on the international radar—thanks in part to its stint as the European Capital of Culture in 2010—Istanbul is truly a city that never sleeps. It’s also a place where visitors will feel welcome: Istanbul may be on the Bosphorus, but at heart it’s a Mediterranean city, whose friendly inhabitants are effusively social and eager to share what they love most about it.
Composed of nine metropolitan districts, Izmir is the third largest city in Turkey and the country’s second largest port after Istanbul.
Backed by imposing mountains, tiny Kotor lies hidden from the open sea, tucked into the deepest channel of the Bokor Kotorska (Kotor Bay), which is Europe’s most southerly fjord. To many, this town is more charming than its sister UNESCO World Heritage Site, Dubrovnik, retaining more authenticity, but with fewer tourists and spared the war damage and subsequent rebuilding which has given Dubrovnik something of a Disney feel.Kotor’s medieval Stari Grad (Old Town) is enclosed within well-preserved defensive walls built between the 9th and 18th centuries and is presided over by a proud hilltop fortress. Within the walls, a labyrinth of winding cobbled streets leads through a series of splendid paved piazzas, rimmed by centuries-old stone buildings. The squares are now haunted by strains from buskers but although many now house trendy cafés and chic boutiques, directions are still given medieval-style by reference to the town’s landmark churches.In the Middle Ages, as Serbia’s chief port, Kotor was an important economic and cultural center with its own highly regarded schools of stonemasonry and iconography. From 1391 to 1420 it was an independent city-republic and later, it spent periods under Venetian, Austrian, and French rule, though it was undoubtedly the Venetians who left the strongest impression on the city’s architecture. Since the breakup of Yugoslavia, some 70% of the stone buildings in the romantic Old Town have been snapped up by foreigners, mostly Brits and Russians. Porto Montenegro, a new marina designed to accommodate some of the world’s largest super yachts, opened in nearby Tivat in 2011, and along the bay are other charming seaside villages, all with better views of the bay than the vista from Kotor itself where the waterside is congested with cruise ships and yachts. Try sleepy Muo or the settlement of Prčanj in one direction around the bay, or Perast and the Roman mosaics of Risan in the other direction.
Bari, capital of the province of Apulia, lies on southern Italy’s Adriatic coast. Its busy port is a leading commercial and industrial centre as well as a transit point for travellers catching ferries across the Adriatic to Greece. Bari comprises a new and an old town. To the north, on a promontory between the old and new harbours, lies the picturesque old town, or Citta Vecchia, with a maze of narrow, crooked streets. To the south is the spacious and regularly planned new town, which has developed considerably since 1930, when the Levant Fair was first held here. The heart of the modern town is Piazza della Liberta. The busy thoroughfare, Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, separates the new town from the old. At the eastern end of the Corso begins the Lungomare Nazario Sauro, a magnificent seafront promenade that runs along the old harbour. Bari and the Apulian region were long recognized for their strategic location, attracting a succession of colonizers such as the Normans, Moors and Spaniards, each leaving their mark.
Dalmatia’s capital for more than 1,000 years, Zadar is all too often passed over by travelers on their way to Split or Dubrovnik. What they miss out on is a city of more than 73,000 that is remarkably lovely and lively despite—and, in some measure, because of—its tumultuous history. The Old Town, separated from the rest of the city on a peninsula some 4 km (2½ miles) long and just 1,640 feet wide, is bustling and beautiful: the marble pedestrian streets are replete with Roman ruins, medieval churches, palaces, museums, archives, and libraries. Parts of the new town are comparatively dreary, a testament to what a world war followed by decades of communism, not to mention a civil war, can do to the architecture of a city that is 3,000 years old. A settlement had already existed on the site of the present-day city for some 2,000 years when Rome finally conquered Zadar in the 1st century BC; the foundations of the forum can be seen today. Before the Romans came the Liburnians had made it a key center for trade with the Greeks and Romans for 800 years. In the 3rd century BC the Romans began to seriously pester the Liburnians, but required two centuries to bring the area under their control. During the Byzantine era, Zadar became the capital of Dalmatia, and this period saw the construction of its most famous church, the 9th-century St. Donat’s Basilica. It remained the region’s foremost city through the ensuing centuries. The city then experienced successive onslaughts and occupations—both long and short—by the Osogoths, the Croatian-Hungarian kings, the Venetians, the Turks, the Habsburgs, the French, the Habsburgs again, and finally the Italians before becoming part of Yugoslavia and, in 1991, the independent republic of Croatia. Zadar was for centuries an Italian-speaking city, and Italian is still spoken widely, especially by older people. Indeed, it was ceded to Italy in 1921 under the Treaty of Rapallo (and reverted to its Italian name of Zara). Its occupation by the Germans from 1943 led to intense bombing by the Allies during World War II, which left most of the city in ruins. Zadar became part of Tito’s Yugoslavia in 1947, prompting many Italian residents to leave. Zadar’s most recent ravages occurred during a three-month siege by Serb forces and months more of bombardment during the Croatian-Serbian war between 1991 and 1995. But you’d be hard-pressed to find outward signs of this today in what is a city to behold. There are helpful interpretive signs in English all around the Old Town, so you certainly won’t feel lost when trying to make sense of the wide variety of architectural sites you might otherwise pass by with only a cursory look.
Up until the end of World War I, Trieste was the only port of the vast Austro-Hungarian Empire and therefore a major industrial and financial center. In the early years of the 20th century, Trieste and its surroundings also became famous by their association with some of the most important names of Italian literature, such as Italo Svevo, and English and German letters. James Joyce drew inspiration from the city’s multiethnic population, and Rainer Maria Rilke was inspired by the seacoast west of the city. Although it has lost its importance as a port and a center of finance, it has never fully lost its roll as an intellectual center. The streets hold a mix of monumental, neoclassical, and art-nouveau architecture built by the Austrians during Trieste’s days of glory, granting an air of melancholy stateliness to a city that lives as much in the past as the present.

Each ship is equipped with limited medical facilities and staffed by international medical personnel. Customary Emergency Room fees and charges do apply for medical services and are dictated by the services performed by the ship’s medical staff.
Our doctors are international and meet American College of Emergency Physicians and ICCL (International Council of Cruise Lines) guidelines, including: current physician licensure, three years of post-graduate / post-registration clinical practice in general and emergency medicine or Board certification in: emergency medicine, family practice or internal medicine or competent skill level in advanced life support and cardiac care.
Guests must coordinate having their prescription drugs shipped at their own expense and responsibility to port agents throughout their cruise. These arrangements need to be made prior to their departure directly with our Special Services department.
Upon request, Port Agent information will be made available to the guests and travel partners closer to the cruise date through the Special Services department.
Oceania Cruises has established contacts throughout the world with several different emergency rooms/hospitals where on board doctors can refer patients for medical care.
Having medical equipment brought on board is handled on a case by case basis. Oceania Cruises must receive the full dimensions, description of the equipment, name of the delivery company, and all other pertinent information.

The on board medical staff can administer INR testing. There is a machine on board that tests the level of Coumadin in the blood. The Nurse fee is $35 and the INR test is $35. If it is done after hours or outside of the medical facility an extra $40 US will be charged. If you only want the test done the total would be $70. For the Medical consultation the fee is $145, if it is done outside regular hours another $40 US has to be added.

- Smoking Policy:
For the safety and security of all guests and staff on board, Designated Smoking Areas are available on the forward, starboard corner of the Pool Deck and in the aft, port corner of Horizons. These areas are comfortably furnished and conveniently located near food and beverage areas. Smoking is expressly forbidden in all staterooms and suites, on verandas, or in any areas of the ship other than officially Designated Smoking Areas. Smoking in a stateroom or suite or on a veranda represents a serious fire and safety hazard to all guests and staff. Guests choosing to disregard this policy will be disembarked at the next port of call and may also be subject to additional fees that will be imposed to cover the costs associated with any damage to and the required cleaning of furnishings, verandas and surrounding deck and accommodation areas. All areas other than those specified as Designated Smoking Areas will remain smoke-free. This includes all guest suites and staterooms, verandas, restaurants, public areas, the Casino and all other areas of the ship. Cigar and pipe smoking is only permitted on the forward, starboard corner of the Pool Deck. The use of electronic cigarettes is allowed within designated smoking areas only.
- Dress Code:
Daytime Attire
Think breezy and polished. Sundresses, tailored shorts, polos, and lightweight chinos are perfect. Swimwear is for the pool only – please remind guests to wear a cover-up when heading to dining areas.
Evening Attire

- Special Dietary Requirements:
Special arrangements can be made if you require diabetic, gluten-free, lactose-free, kosher, vegetarian and vegan meals. Other diets must be requested for approval and, in some cases, may require additional medical documentation.
Kosher Dining
Our new supplier for frozen kosher pre-packaged meals is Borenstein Caterers Incorporated from New York. This company was established in 1946 and is providing food services to all travel and retail markets. PrePackaged Glatt Kosher Meals are produced under the supervision of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America (the OU). These meals are presented in plastic containers and double wrapped and served with an OU seal. All items intended for the oven are double wrapped.
All breads are Pas Yisroel and all dairy products are Cholov Yisroel.
INSTRUCTIONS ON PRE-ORDERING:
Guests will be able to view all selections online at oceaniacruises.com and will be required to pre-order their selections no later than 150 days prior to sailing for cruises outside the US and Europe, no later than 120 days prior to sailing for Europe cruises and cruises in the US. Guests will still need to complete an order form indicating their selections and submit the form via email to Special Services for handling.Vegetarian
We do offer Vegetarian meals onboard. We do not have a Vegetarian menu, however, guests are able to select dishes from our existing menus and the chefs will adapt the recipes to be in line with their dietary requirements.
- Age Restrictions:
Infants must be at least 6 months of age on the day of boarding or at least 12 months of age on the day of boarding if the cruise has 3 or more consecutive days at sea. Guests traveling with a young infant that does not meet this minimum age requirement will be denied boarding. No refunds or any other compensation shall be due from Us to You or anyone as a result of the denial of boarding to an underage infant or any accompanying guests. Carrier requires that Guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by and occupy the same accommodations as a parent or other responsible adult 18 years or older who shall remain responsible for the conduct of such children at all times during the Cruise or CruiseTour.
We do not provide services for the care, entertainment or supervision of children. Each adult Guest hereby agrees and warrants that he/she will supervise any accompanying children at all times to ensure these policies, along with all other rules of the Carrier and Ship, are strictly adhered to. Each Guest agrees to indemnify and hold Carrier harmless from any claims, expenses, loss or damages caused by the presence of any children in the care of such Guest during the Cruise or CruiseTour.
Fitness Centre
Guests must be 18 years or older to use any equipment provided in the onboard Fitness Center, with the exception of children aged 16 or 17 years of age, who may use the equipment in this facility if accompanied by a parent or other legal guardian at all times. Children under the age of 16 are not permitted in the Fitness Center. All children 17 years of age and under are required to be accompanied by an adult, 18 years of age or older, on any shore excursion reserved by Guest through Carrier.
Alcohol Policy:
The minimum drinking age for all alcoholic beverages is 21 years of age. Guests who are 18 – 20 years of age can purchase and consume beer or wine when the ship is in international waters (3 miles out of US territorial waters). Guests who are between the ages of 18 and 20 years of age will not be allowed to consume any alcohol on any Alaska or New England sailings. For Caribbean sailings, they can consume beer and wine once the vessel leaves US territorial waters.
Beverage Package Availability:
Guests between the ages of 18 to 20 years of age will be able to purchase the Prestige Select or Beverage Package. on all itineraries apart from Alaska, New England and only upon departure from the last US port on Caribbean sailings.
- Disabled Facilities:
Guests with any medical condition(s) or special needs that may require treatment or attention or accommodation during the voyage, or needing to travel with medical apparatus, including wheelchairs, motorised scooters, oxygen therapy, etc., must advise Oceania Cruises in writing at the time of deposit. Please note some ports of call may not be suitable for guests with limited mobility and in such cases, may disallow debarkation with a wheelchair or motorised scooter or for any individual with limited mobility. Oceania Cruises is unable to accommodate women past their sixth month of pregnancy. Oceania Cruises has the right to refuse or revoke passage to anyone who, in its judgment, is in a physical, mental or emotional condition unfit for travel or whose comfort onboard may be compromised due to situations beyond the care that can be provided by Oceania Cruises. Oceania Cruises will under appropriate circumstances permit its guests to use special equipment such as those noted above, which satisfy the criteria stated in the Oceania Cruises’ Policy Statement.

Enjoy WiFi access throughout the entirety of the ship, including in all suites, staterooms, public rooms and outdoor decks. A complimentary login per guest will be provided with a maximum of two free logins per suite or stateroom (one login for solo travelers), each of which can be used on one device at a time. Additional logins for 3rd and 4th guests in a suite or stateroom as well as upgrade packages are available for purchase on board. For your convenience, Internet-enabled computers are also available in the Oceania@Sea Internet Center aboard many of our ships.
Starlink, has been completed on all ships, providing all guests with high-speed, unlimited WiFi included as part of the cruise fare.
- Alcohol Policy :
The sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages will be limited to guests aged 21 years or older with certain exceptions as detailed below. Guests are kindly reminded to consume alcohol in moderation. Oceania Cruises reserves the right to prohibit and retain all alcohol bought ashore for consumption onboard the vessel.
Guests who are 18 – 20 years of age can purchase and consume beer or wine when the ship is in international waters (3 miles out of US territorial waters, including in the Caribbean) with the consent of an accompanying parent. Authorization will be given only when the accompanying parent completes the Young Adult Alcoholic Beverage Waiver form. This form can be obtained and completed at the Reception Desk upon embarkation of the vessel. However, Guests 18 years of age or older are permitted to consume alcoholic beverages when sailing on roundtrip European voyages without having to complete the Young Adult Alcoholic Beverage Waiver form. Guests who are between the ages of 18 and 20 years of age will not be allowed to consume any alcohol on any Alaska or New England sailings.
